Disputed land: the residents decide, or history decides?

Self-determination is a real principle in international law, not just feels. Residents should decide their future.

Residents literally live with the outcome. That has to count for something.

Both? If we ignore history we repeat it. If we ignore people living now, we create new suffering. This isn't binary.

Current residents have to live with the consequences, so they should get a say. History matters but it shouldn't trap people forever.

Hard disagree. You can't just erase centuries because it's convenient now.

People living there know what matters most. History is written by whoever had the power, not necessarily the truth.
