A loved one refuses life-saving treatment. Do you force the issue?

Love means accepting hard truths. If they've made their choice with sound mind, that choice matters more than your fear.

The real answer is you listen, you understand WHY they're refusing, and you work through it together. Not force, not abandon.

Sometimes fighting for someone IS loving them. If my sister refused chemo I'd move heaven and earth to change her mind before giving up.

I get the instinct but you can't coerce someone into living. That's not love, that's control.

Forcing someone into treatment they don't want is a violation, full stop. Medical autonomy isn't negotiable.

This is exactly why advance directives exist. You have to respect what they decided, even if it breaks your heart.
