Save one person you love or save five strangers?

I have to be honest, I'd save my loved one. I know it sounds selfish, but that's the real answer most people would give.

Five lives are worth more than one, mathematically and morally. We have to think beyond our personal attachments.

Five strangers. If everyone prioritized their own loved ones, society would fall apart. We need to think about the greater good.

This is the trolley problem all over again. In reality, most of us would choose the person we love, even if we claim otherwise in abstract discussions.

My heart says save the one I love, but my conscience says the five strangers have families too, dreams too. This question haunts me.

The utilitarian answer is clear: five lives outweigh one. But we're not purely rational beings, and that's okay.
